These Cozy Christmas Cherry Blossoms Cookies are soft, buttery treats with a chewy cherry center, perfect for festive occasions and easy holiday baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 2 1/2 cups (312 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • About 24 maraschino cherries, halved and patted dry
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes with a mixer or vigorously by hand.
  3. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until fully combined and glossy.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed or folding gently until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
  6. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart. Press a halved maraschino cherry into the center of each cookie, cut side down.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until edges start to turn golden but centers remain soft.
  8. Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, dust lightly with powdered sugar.

Notes

Dry maraschino cherries thoroughly to prevent soggy dough. If dough is too sticky, chill for 15 minutes before shaping. Watch cookies closely near the end of baking to avoid overbaking. For gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with gluten-free baking blend. For vegan version, use dairy-free butter and flaxseed egg replacement.
