A festive holiday drink featuring rich cocoa, velvety cream, and a natural blue hue from butterfly pea flower tea, blended with cream cheese for a silky texture. Perfect for cozy winter gatherings and holiday celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk (480 ml)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon butterfly pea flower tea powder or brewed and reduced tea
  • 2 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, blue sprinkles or edible glitter, mini marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Pour 2 cups whole milk and 1 cup heavy cream into a medium saucepan. Warm over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes until just steaming but not boiling.
  2. Whisk in 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar. Stir for 2-3 minutes until cocoa dissolves completely and mixture is smooth and glossy.
  3. Add 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Whisk to combine evenly.
  4. Remove pan from heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon butterfly pea flower tea powder or a tablespoon of reduced brewed tea until the drink takes on a soft blue hue.
  5. In a small bowl, soften 2 ounces cream cheese by stirring until smooth. Slowly whisk it into the cocoa mixture until fully blended.
  6. Return saucepan to low heat and warm for another 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Do not boil.
  7. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, blue sprinkles, or mini marshmallows if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Heat milk and cream gently to avoid scorching. Soften cream cheese well before mixing to prevent lumps. Use a hand mixer or immersion blender briefly if lumps appear. Adjust sugar to taste or substitute with maple syrup for less sweetness. For dairy-free version, use plant-based milk and cream cheese alternatives. Butterfly pea flower tea provides natural blue color and subtle flavor; avoid artificial food coloring.
