Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Homemade Coffee Liqueur:
  • 1 cup (240 ml) strong brewed espresso or very strong coffee
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240 ml) vodka
  • For the Creamy Espresso Martini:
  • 2 oz (60 ml) vodka
  • 1 oz (30 ml) homemade coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh espresso, cooled
  • 1 oz (30 ml) heavy cream or half-and-half (substitute with coconut cream for dairy-free)
  • Ice cubes
  • Coffee beans or chocolate shavings (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Coffee Liqueur: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup (240 ml) brewed espresso, 1 cup (200 g) sugar, and 1/2 cup (120 ml) water. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves completely. Let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes to thicken slightly. Remove from heat and stir in 1 tsp vanilla extract. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  2. Add Vodka to the Liqueur Base: Once cooled, pour in 1 cup (240 ml) vodka and stir to combine. Transfer the mixture to a clean bottle or jar, seal tightly, and refrigerate for at least 24 hours to let flavors meld.
  3. Prepare the Martini: Brew a fresh shot of espresso (about 1 oz / 30 ml) and let it cool slightly. Fill your cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  4. Combine Ingredients in Shaker: Add 2 oz (60 ml) vodka, 1 oz (30 ml) homemade coffee liqueur, 1 oz (30 ml) cooled espresso, and 1 oz (30 ml) heavy cream or half-and-half to the shaker.
  5. Shake Vigorously: Seal the shaker and shake hard for 15-20 seconds until chilled and cream is frothy.
  6. Strain and Serve: Strain the cocktail into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a few coffee beans or a sprinkle of chocolate shavings if desired.

Notes

Use freshly brewed espresso for best flavor. Let espresso cool before shaking to avoid melting ice too quickly. Homemade coffee liqueur can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For dairy-free version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream or almond milk creamer. Chill glasses before serving for best presentation.
