Golden, crispy wontons with a creamy, savory filling that melts in your mouth. Perfect for parties, snacks, or cozy nights in.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons green onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Optional: minced crab meat, chopped shrimp, pinch of sugar, sriracha, chili flakes, honey, sweet chili sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, green onions, garlic powder, and soy sauce. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  2. Set up your workspace: Lay out wonton wrappers on a clean surface. Keep a small bowl of water or a beaten egg nearby for sealing the edges.
  3. Fill the wontons: Place about 1 teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each wrapper. Be careful not to overfill.
  4. Seal the wontons: Dip your finger or pastry brush into the water or egg wash and run it along the edges of the wrapper. Fold the wrapper diagonally to form a triangle, pressing firmly to seal.
  5. Heat the oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil stays at the right temperature.
  6. Fry the wontons: Carefully lower the wontons into the hot oil, a few at a time, to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Drain and cool: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fried wontons to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce such as sweet chili sauce or soy sauce.

Notes

Keep wonton wrappers moist by covering unused ones with a damp towel. Use a thermometer to maintain oil temperature at 350°F (175°C). Experiment with fillings like crab, shrimp, or shredded cheese for variety.
