These mini hot dogs wrapped in flaky puff pastry are quick, easy, and perfect for parties or casual get-togethers. They bake evenly on a sheet pan, delivering a crispy, golden crust with juicy, savory hot dogs inside.

  • About 24 mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Yellow mustard (optional, for spreading inside pastry)
  • Thin slices of cheddar or American cheese (optional)
  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for sprinkling)
  • Cooking spray or butter (to grease baking sheet)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  2. Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out each thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth out creases (about 12 x 12 inches). Slice each sheet into 12 strips, about 1 inch wide.
  3. If using, lightly spread mustard or place a small strip of cheese along the center of each pastry strip.
  4. Place one mini hot dog at the end of each pastry strip and roll it up tightly, sealing the edge by pinching the dough. Place seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  5. Brush each wrapped hot dog with beaten egg wash using a pastry brush.
  6. Sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top if desired.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes until puff pastry is risen, golden, and crisp. Start checking at 15 minutes to avoid overbaking.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use to prevent stickiness. Do not overfill with mustard or cheese to avoid soggy pastry. Space wrapped hot dogs apart on the baking sheet to maintain crispiness. Egg wash is key for golden color and crunch. Cool on a wire rack to prevent soggy bottoms. Can be frozen unbaked and baked from frozen with extra baking time.
