easy caramel apple slices - featured image

A quick and fun snack featuring thin apple slices dipped in smooth caramel and optionally topped with nuts, sprinkles, or sea salt. Perfect for kids and parties with minimal mess.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 medium-sized firm apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 12 ounces (340 grams) individually wrapped caramel candies or caramel bits
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) heavy cream or milk
  • Optional toppings: chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), rainbow sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, flaky sea salt
  • Optional: wooden skewers or popsicle sticks for easier dipping and handling

Instructions

  1. Wash and slice the apples into thin slices about 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick, removing seeds and core bits.
  2. Line a baking sheet or large plate with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Insert skewers into apple slices if using.
  3. Melt caramel candies with heavy cream or milk in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, melt over low heat in a small saucepan.
  4. Dip each apple slice into the warm caramel, coating one or both sides as desired. Let excess caramel drip back into the bowl.
  5. Quickly sprinkle optional toppings over the caramel before it sets.
  6. Place dipped slices on the prepared baking sheet and let cool at room temperature for 15–20 minutes or refrigerate for 10 minutes to set faster.
  7. Serve chilled or at room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Notes

Use good-quality caramel candies for smooth melting. Thin apple slices help balance sweetness and ease of eating. Keep caramel warm but not hot to avoid dripping. Work quickly with toppings as caramel sets fast. Parchment paper prevents sticking and eases cleanup. Refrigerate dipped slices for a firmer finish. For dairy-free, substitute heavy cream with coconut milk and use dairy-free caramel.
