A quick and satisfying deconstructed egg roll dish featuring crispy cabbage and savory ground pork, ready in about 20 minutes with just five main ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 4 cups shredded green cabbage (about half a medium head)
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Shred the cabbage finely and mince the garlic. Slice the green onions thinly if using.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the ground pork, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently.
  4. Add the minced garlic and stir constantly for about 30 seconds to avoid burning.
  5. Add the shredded cabbage to the pan. Stir frequently and cook for 5-7 minutes until the cabbage softens and develops a little crispy, golden edges.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce and stir everything together. Add a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired. Cook for another minute to let flavors meld.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle sliced green onions on top for freshness.
  8. If the mixture seems too wet, cook a little longer uncovered to evaporate excess moisture and achieve a slightly crispy texture.

Notes

Use toasted sesame oil for best flavor. Avoid burning garlic by adding it just before cabbage and stirring constantly. Cook cabbage low and slow to get crispy golden edges. Do not overcrowd the pan to prevent steaming. For gluten-free, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos. For vegetarian/vegan, swap pork with crumbled tofu or tempeh and use vegetarian sauces.
