A simple and delicious slow-cooked ham recipe with a sweet and tangy honey mustard glaze, perfect for busy hosts and effortless entertaining.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 to 5 pounds pre-cooked ham, bone-in or boneless
  • ½ cup honey (raw or wildflower preferred)
  • ¼ cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ cup water or chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Remove any packaging and skin from the pre-cooked ham. If spiral-sliced, keep intact. Pat dry with paper towels (about 5 minutes).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together honey, Dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until smooth (about 3 minutes).
  3. Place ham flat-side down in the crockpot. Pour water or chicken broth into the bottom to keep ham moist.
  4. Use a basting brush or spoon to spread about two-thirds of the honey mustard glaze over the top and sides of the ham. Reserve remaining glaze (about 3 minutes).
  5. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, checking after 4 hours for tenderness and warmth. The glaze will thicken and caramelize slightly.
  6. About 30 minutes before serving, spoon reserved glaze over the ham again. Optionally switch crockpot to high for more caramelization.
  7. Remove ham carefully and let rest for about 10 minutes before slicing to redistribute juices.

Notes

Add a splash more water or broth if glaze thickens too much or starts to burn. Score ham surface in a diamond pattern if not pre-sliced to help glaze penetrate. Use low heat for best tenderness. Rest ham before slicing to keep moist. For a smoky twist, add smoked paprika or cayenne to glaze. Maple syrup can substitute honey. Ensure mustard and broth are gluten-free for gluten-free version.
