A cozy fall drink combining rich espresso, warm spices, and natural maple sweetness for a smooth, comforting beverage perfect for chilly mornings or relaxing evenings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (about 2 oz / 60 ml) freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee (medium roast recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup (Grade A recommended)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk or dairy-free alternative like oat milk
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • A pinch of ground clove
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Brew 2 shots (2 oz / 60 ml) of espresso using your machine or preferred method. Set aside to keep warm.
  2. In a small saucepan, pour 1 cup (240 ml) milk or milk alternative. Add ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg, a pinch of ground clove, and a pinch of sea salt. Warm over medium heat until hot but not boiling (about 3-4 minutes), stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup and ½ teaspoon vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Use a handheld frother or whisk vigorously to create a light foam. If you don’t have a frother, shaking the warm milk vigorously in a sealed jar for 30 seconds works well.
  5. Pour the brewed espresso into your favorite mug or glass. Slowly add the warm, spiced milk, holding back the foam with a spoon. Then, spoon the foam on top to finish.
  6. Optionally, sprinkle a tiny dash of cinnamon or nutmeg on top for garnish. Sip and savor immediately.

Notes

Heat milk slowly on medium to low heat to avoid scorching. Use a pinch of sea salt to balance flavors. Freshly ground spices enhance aroma but pre-ground works fine. Serve immediately for best flavor and foam. For vegan version, use oat or almond milk and swap maple syrup with coconut nectar or agave. For iced version, chill espresso and spiced milk and serve over ice.
