A wholesome and delicious overnight oats recipe featuring homemade blueberry chia jam and creamy almond butter, perfect for a quick and nourishing breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats (old-fashioned)
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk of choice (almond, oat, or dairy milk; unsweetened almond milk recommended)
  • ½ cup (120g) Greek yogurt, plain (full-fat or low-fat)
  • ¼ cup (60g) blueberry chia jam (homemade)
  • 2 tablespoons (30g) almond butter (creamy or crunchy)
  • 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds
  • 12 teaspoons maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Make the Blueberry Chia Jam: In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup (150g) blueberries, 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds, 1-2 tablespoons (15-30ml) maple syrup or honey, and 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the berries break down and the mixture thickens (about 10 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool. For a smoother texture, press through a fine mesh strainer if desired.
  2. Mix the Oats Base: In a mixing bowl or large jar, combine 1 cup (90g) rolled oats, 1 tablespoon (12g) chia seeds, and a pinch of salt. Add 1 cup (240ml) milk of choice, ½ cup (120g) Greek yogurt, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1-2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey if using. Stir well until combined.
  3. Add Jam and Almond Butter: Swirl in ¼ cup (60g) of the blueberry chia jam, leaving some visible for texture and flavor. Top with 2 tablespoons (30g) almond butter. Mix in or leave as topping.
  4. Refrigerate Overnight: Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight to allow oats to soak and thicken.
  5. Serve: Stir gently before serving. Add extra milk if a looser texture is preferred. Garnish with fresh blueberries, sliced almonds, or a drizzle of almond butter if desired.

Notes

Use old-fashioned rolled oats for best texture; steel-cut oats require longer soaking. Homemade blueberry chia jam is less sweet and more natural than store-bought. Almond butter can be swapped with peanut, cashew, sunflower seed butter, or tahini for allergies or preferences. Adjust sweetness with maple syrup or honey as desired. If oats are too thick in the morning, add a splash of milk. Jam keeps refrigerated for 1-2 weeks. Do not freeze overnight oats as texture changes.
