A quick and easy appetizer featuring creamy goat cheese, sweet fig jam, and crispy baguette slices. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 fresh baguette, sliced thinly
  • 23 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 8 ounces creamy goat cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup fig jam or preserves
  • Fresh thyme sprigs for garnish (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: crushed walnuts or pistachios, or a drizzle of honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the baguette into thin rounds, about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Place the sliced baguette rounds onto a baking sheet. Brush each slice lightly with olive oil and sprinkle a pinch of sea salt if desired.
  3. Toast the bread in the preheated oven for 5-7 minutes, or until golden and slightly crispy. Check often to avoid burning.
  4. Stir the softened goat cheese in a bowl to make it extra creamy and easy to spread. Let it sit at room temperature if too firm.
  5. Spread a generous layer of goat cheese onto each toasted baguette slice, covering the edges for an even bite.
  6. Top the goat cheese layer with a dollop of fig jam. Spread gently using the back of a spoon.
  7. Garnish each crostini with a sprig of fresh thyme, a sprinkle of crushed nuts, or a drizzle of honey for added flavor.
  8. Arrange the crostini on a serving platter and serve immediately while the bread is still slightly warm and crispy.

Notes

[‘Choose a fresh baguette that is not too soft or hard for easier slicing.’, ‘Keep an eye on the baguette slices while toasting to avoid over-browning.’, ‘Experiment with toppings like cracked pepper, balsamic reduction, or sea salt.’, ‘You can toast the bread and prep the goat cheese and fig jam ahead of time, then assemble just before serving.’]
