A creative and sustainable way to repurpose leftover turkey fat into aromatic candles infused with fresh herbs, perfect for gifting or cozy home decor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup turkey fat, strained and cleaned
  • 34 sprigs fresh herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage, or a mix)
  • Pre-waxed candle wicks with metal bases
  • Small glass jars or metal tins (heat-resistant)
  • Essential oils (optional, e.g., lavender, eucalyptus, or citrus oils)
  • Cloth or coffee filter for straining

Instructions

  1. Prepare the turkey fat by straining it to remove any bits of meat or seasoning using a fine mesh strainer or coffee filter.
  2. Melt the turkey fat over low heat in a small saucepan until completely melted (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Add fresh herbs to the melted fat and let them steep for 10 minutes to infuse their aroma. Add a few drops of essential oils if desired.
  4. Place pre-waxed wicks with metal bases into the center of your chosen containers. Use skewers or chopsticks to hold the wicks upright and centered.
  5. Carefully pour the melted fat into the containers, leaving about ½ inch of space at the top. Ensure the wicks stay centered.
  6. Allow the candles to cool completely for 2-3 hours until solid. Trim the wicks to a height of about ½ inch.
  7. Decorate the containers with ribbons, twine, or labels for a festive touch.

Notes

Ensure the turkey fat is thoroughly strained to avoid uneven burning. Experiment with different herbs and essential oils for unique scents. Allow candles to cool slowly for a smooth finish.
