A festive and easy-to-make layered jello shot recipe perfect for patriotic celebrations like the Fourth of July. These shots feature vibrant red, white, and blue layers with a creamy white middle and a perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) red fruit-flavored gelatin (strawberry or cherry works best)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka or clear spirit of choice
  • 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) vodka
  • 1 box (3 oz / 85 g) blue fruit-flavored gelatin (blue raspberry or berry blend)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vodka

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: In a mixing bowl, pour 1 cup boiling water over the red gelatin powder. Whisk until completely dissolved (about 1-2 minutes). Stir in 1/2 cup vodka. Let the mixture cool slightly for about 5 minutes, but don’t let it set.
  2. Pour Red Layer: Carefully pour the red gelatin mixture into shot glasses, filling them about one-third full (roughly 1.5 oz or 45 ml per glass). Place them in the fridge for 30-40 minutes to set firmly but not too hard (surface should be slightly tacky).
  3. Prepare the White Layer: While red is setting, dissolve the unflavored gelatin in 1 cup boiling water, whisking thoroughly. Stir in 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk and 1/4 cup vodka until smooth.
  4. Layer the White: Once the red layer is ready, gently pour the white mixture over the back of a spoon or use a piping bag to layer it carefully on top of the red. Fill to about two-thirds full (another 1.5 oz or 45 ml). Chill again for 30-40 minutes until set.
  5. Prepare the Blue Layer: Repeat the gelatin dissolving process with the blue powder and 1 cup boiling water. Stir in 1/2 cup vodka. Let cool slightly.
  6. Finish with Blue: Pour the blue layer gently over the white layer using the spoon method. Fill the shot glasses to the top (about 1.5 oz or 45 ml). Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight, to fully set.
  7. Serve: Before serving, optionally add festive garnishes like mini American flags, edible stars, or a tiny dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

Let each layer chill until just firm but not rock hard to prevent bleeding colors. Pour the next layer gently over the back of a spoon. Cool gelatin mixtures before pouring to avoid melting previous layers. Store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Not recommended to reheat. For non-alcoholic versions, replace vodka with sparkling water or fruit juice. For vegan versions, use agar-agar and coconut condensed milk.
