strawberry basil mojito cocktail - featured image

A quick and easy homemade summer cocktail combining fresh strawberries, fragrant basil, white rum, and lime juice for a refreshing and flavorful drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 810 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 oz (60 ml) white rum
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz (30 ml) simple syrup
  • 3 oz (90 ml) soda water, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnishes: extra strawberry slices, basil sprigs, lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Rinse strawberries and basil leaves under cold water. Hull and slice strawberries into halves or quarters. Tear basil leaves gently to release aroma but keep mostly whole.
  2. Place strawberry pieces and basil leaves into a glass or mixing vessel. Gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon until berries release juice and basil scent fills the air, avoiding pulverizing the basil.
  3. Add 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice and 1 oz (30 ml) simple syrup. Stir gently to combine and dissolve syrup.
  4. Measure and add 2 oz (60 ml) white rum. Stir gently to blend.
  5. Fill the glass to the top with ice cubes.
  6. Pour about 3 oz (90 ml) chilled soda water over the ice. Stir lightly to combine without losing fizz.
  7. Garnish with a sprig of fresh basil and a strawberry slice on the rim or inside the glass. Add a lime wedge if desired.
  8. Serve immediately for best taste and fizz.

Notes

Do not over-muddle basil to avoid bitterness. Use fresh lime juice for best flavor. Adjust simple syrup to taste. Prepare just before serving to keep basil crisp and strawberries fresh. For a non-alcoholic version, omit rum and increase soda water or add sparkling juice.
