A quick and easy appetizer featuring bite-sized sausages coated in a perfectly balanced sweet, spicy, and garlicky sauce. Perfect for parties, potlucks, or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound (450g) Lil Smokies sausages
  • ½ cup (120ml) honey (raw or wildflower preferred)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (Frank’s RedHot recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a small mixing bowl, whisk together honey, hot sauce, softened butter, soy sauce, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, black pepper, and lime juice (if using) until smooth and glossy. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Lil Smokies: Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add Lil Smokies and cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned and heated through, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Add the sauce: Reduce heat to low and pour the prepared sauce over the Lil Smokies. Stir gently to coat evenly. Let simmer gently until the sauce thickens and clings to the sausages, about 3 to 4 minutes. Avoid burning the sauce.
  4. Final taste and adjust: Taste the dish and add more red pepper flakes or hot sauce for extra heat, or drizzle more honey for sweetness. Stir well.
  5. Serve warm: Transfer to a serving platter or bowl. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or lime juice to loosen it without diluting flavor. Use room temperature butter for a silky sauce texture. To prevent sticking, add a splash of water while cooking if needed. For less spice, reduce hot sauce and red pepper flakes. Vegan variations can use vegan sausage and maple syrup or agave instead of honey.
